These newsletters are a FREE service to promote the art and artists and entertainers of nightlife & cabaret.
SPECIAL NOTE TO SUBSCRIBERS
Please note that with the Christmas & New Year's Holidays both falling on Friday, there will be just one issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for the weeks of December 20th & 27th. The Monday issues on the 21st & 28th will be "double issues" covering all the news we can fit, plus all the shows that are giving discounts to members and the events and items running ads on the website. There will be NO MEMBERS' ONLY issues on Christmas day, Friday, December 25th. Please keep this information in mind when submitting news items.
HERE & THERE - PART I
Baby, it's cold outside! And apparently we can expect more cold over the next several days - temperatures climbing to the mid-30s (f) during the day and dropping into the low 20's at night. Funny thing, in Australia they have announced "mid-summer" events on the cabaret schedules - THE BUTTERFLY CLUB in Melbourne even is taking part in a Mid-Summer Festival!
The listings below may seem a little spotty - especially when it comes to 2010 listings. We've added every listing from press releases received, but only two clubs have sent in their January 2010 Schedules so far so there's a lot of news out there. And we only have one issue a week for the next two weeks (see item above this section heading). If you have a show during the first 10 days of January, please try to get your press release in before Sunday - and remember, a flier is NOT a press release.
Another important point (and I make note of this in every issue but some folks seem to miss the statement at the end of the listings), news items and press releases only appear once in the newsletter. Then the item is added to the DATEBOOK/DIARY section of the website, in date order. The only exceptions are as follows: cabaret benefit events, items that are advertised on the website, weekly/monthly events that feature special guests each show and cabaret organization & festival events. The Thursday issue also includes all items from members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE who offer discounts to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE. Only a few other exceptions are made at the editor's discretion (thats me).
Check out the news item below for tomorrow night (Friday, December 18th) - Brandon Cutrell's AFTER PARTY show. He has lined up a terrific cast of performers from Broadway & Cabaret (the two waiters at the show are also fantastic performers and usually take part as well). The show is a tribute to the renowned Sandi Patty, the most awarded female vocalist in contemporary music history. Sandi is in town, and everyone has "fingers crossed" that she will drop by to sing a number or two. Doors open at 10:30 pm, but I strongly advise that anyone planning to attend get to THE BEECHMAN very early - you can wait indoors (although, who knows, the line my be "out the door" before the show gets started).
I am sure you have noticed my frequent mentions of THE BUTTERFLY CLUB in Melbourne, AUS in the newsletters. Well, first off, they are the only Australian cabaret room to send me detailed monthly schedules. But secondly, nearly all of the shows presented there are so eclectic and original, I just enjoy adding them to the newsletter each issue. To quote from their mailings: "While we welcome all forms of cabaret, we favor those that reflect the style of performance for which cabaret was originally created - shows that satirize or reflect contemporary life and enlighten audiences, presented in an intimate environment." A far cry from the "cookie-cutter" shows we so often see here in NYC!
I bring this up because you will have a chance to see first hand, here in NYC, the type of show presented at THE BUTTERFLY on Tuesday, December 22nd at THE DUPLEX when 2009 Under Our Wing award winner Tom Dickins brings his acclaimed show "Where Was I?" to town. I've got my seats reserved and I hope a lot of you take this chance to catch one of the best from Australia. Details in the listings below.
In the listings below we have many shows that are offering discounted tickets to subscribers and members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE, and here's another one - not actually a cabaret show, but an actual Broadway show (thanks to the work of one of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE's "angels", Jamie deRoy). Direct from a sold-out extended run at the Kennedy Center, RAGTIME The Musical has returned to Broadway's NEIL SIMON THEATER (250 West 52nd Street, NYC) in an acclaimed new production as ravishing as relevant. RAGTIME weaves together three distinctly American tales: that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician, united by their courage, compassion and belief in the promise of the future. Their compelling stories are set to a glorious, Tony Award-winning score by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens. Based on the classic E.L. Doctorow novel, RAGTIME also features an extraordinary, Tony Award-winning book by Terrence McNally, direction and choreography by Marcia Milgrom Dodge, a majestic 28-piece orchestra and a vibrant cast of 40. Here's the deal: go to http://www.Ticketmaster.com or call 877-250-2929 and use code BWW129 and save 45% on shows through January 15, 2010. (you can also use this code when purchasing tickets at the box office - Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 8:00 pm or Sunday 12:00 to 6:00 pm).

ADELE ZANE RELEASES THIRD CD "A STRANGER IN TOWN"
Adele Zane's newest CD, "A Stranger in Town" is probably the perfect companion to your broken heart or to the heart you've just broken. For singer/songwriter Zane's third CD she has enlisted the aid of virtuoso guitarist Andrew Green as both collaborator and arranger. More than willing to blur the boundaries between jazz, rock, pop and country, the duo have succeeded in creating a highly polished and well thought out merger of the genres. Todd Isler on hadgini, Jorge Roeder on bass and Jordan Perlson on drums round out a stellar selection of backing musicians. Jim Clouse makes a special guest appearance on drums and Hamcrest Riverton hands in a memorable cameo on Zane's original, Girl at the Bar. The CD is available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/adele3

FINAL CALL FOR CABARET FOR SENIORS: A few months ago we began offering a new service for CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE members over 65. The program includes a special newsletter, every other week, listing special cabaret offers, special news and tips and tricks for seniors. Also included was an extra year extension on their membership - current 2009-2010 members who joined would receive a 2010-2011 membership free. However, to make the program worthwhile, we needed at least 50 members to join, but to date less than 35 members have chosen to take advantage of the program. So, unless we reach that goal by December 31, 2009, the program will be discontinued. Those already in the program will have their membership extended as promised even if the rest of the program is discontinued. Check out the home page at CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for a link to details on how to become a member of CABARET FOR SENIORS. Note: membership in CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is required for this special service. If the goal is not reached, on December 26th the special section will be removed from the website, and the final CABARET FOR SENIORS newsletter will be sent on that date as well.
All e-mail sent to CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE ends up in the same mailbox: stuhamstra@svhamstra.com - but e-mail sent to some of my other addresses (at yahoo.com, gmail.com, mac.com, me.com) have to be forwarded. This is done automatically, but occasionally I find items in those other mailboxes that never get sent on. I have the other addresses so that I can send items to yahoo & google groups, but to assure I receive your mail, please only use the stuhamstra@svhamstra.com address.
With this issue we have included all news items for events through January 10th, 2010, from releases received. If your news event hasn't been included in the newsletter, it just might be that we didn't receive complete information, or, even worse, only received a flier instead of a press release. We do not accept fliers, e-invites and similar items as press releases. We need the information in a format that we can "cut & paste" for use in the newsletter and on the website. This not only saves a lot of retyping, it also means fewer errors (especially miss-spelled names and garbled phone numbers). A FLIER IS NOT A PRESS RELEASE (and please, no PDF files - txt or doc releases only). Thanks.
Please note again that with the Christmas & New Year's Holidays both falling on Friday, there will be just one issue of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE for the weeks of December 20th & 27th.
Save the date: Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 - the 3rd Annual MARCH IS CABARET MONTH GALA! We have the date - now we need to choose the acts, get some sponsors and start selling tickets.
You can see all the events that have already appeared in previous newsletters on the website in the DIARY/DATEBOOK section (click on the button at the top of every page so labeled). Look for more news on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE blog .
