IMPORTANT NEWS FROM/ABOUT CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE

TICKETS ON SALE NOW FOR 18th BIRTHDAY SHOW JULY 9th FOR ALL
TRACY STARK TO RECEIVE DOTTIE BURMAN SONGWRITER AWARD
Singer/songwriter/pianist Tracy Stark will be presented with the 2008 Dottie Burman Award at this year's CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE BIRTHDAY PARTY. The award honors the memory of singer/songwriter/entertainer/motivational speaker, Dottie Burman, who passed away in November 2006 after a heroic battle with cancer.

The annual CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE Birthday party will be held on Wednesday, July 9th at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATER. The doors will open at 6:00 pm. Showtime will be promptly at 7:00 pm and hopefully will be done at 8:30 pm. Tickets are on sale now. SEATING IS LIMITED TO 85. Tickets must be purchased online on the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website use the link on the home (opening) page to order - no reservations will be taken by the club.

The purpose of the show is to raise the funds necessary to keep the website and the newsletter from closing down during the June-July-August period when new banner advertising drops to close to zero. The show also celebrates the start of the new 2008-2009 membership year which officially is July 6th - the date in 1990 when the first CABARET HOTLINE (print edition) was published! The theme of the show is: TURNING 18 - OLD ENOUGH TO CHOOSE! (no politics, please). We have chosen six of the ten-to-twelve performers who will appear in the show: Hector Coris - Cynthia Crane - David Gurland - Teresa Fischer - Matt Leahy - Joyce Moody. Miles Phillips, as the JEFF MATSON AWARD winner, and Tracy Stark, as the DOTTIE BURMAN AWARD winner have also been invited to perform. There may be one or two surprise guest performers as well.

If you can't attend (or if you have a show or CD to promote) you can support the event by purchasing an ad in the program booklet .There is a link on the opening (home) page of the website - fill in the size ad you wish to purchase and I will send you a PayPal invoice (we prefer PayPal - the safest way to transmit money via the internet). Deadline for ads is June 24th.

If you wish to be a sponsor at $100 (you can donate more than one sponsorship) just go to the website and you will find on the opening (home) page a link to the sponsorship form - fill it out with the amount you wish to contribute, and I will send a PayPal invoice for you to use (we prefer PayPal - the safest way to transmit money via the internet). Sponsors will be mentioned in all promotional materials for the event and get a few 1/4 page ad in the program booklet (worth $35).

THE CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 18th BIRTHDAY PARTY is sponsored in part by Suzanne Carricco (http://www.suzannecarrico.com/ ), Raissa Katona Bennett (http://www.raissa.info/ ), MIRANDA MUSIC (http://www.mirandamusic.com/ ) and Sandi Durell (http://www.timelessdivas.com/ ).

ABOUT CABARET NEWS IN THE NEWSLETTER AND ON THE WEBSITE
How do you get an item posted in the CABARET NEWS section of the CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE website and in the newsletter? Just e-mail a press release of at least four or five paragraphs, giving the complete information on your show, CD release or other cabaret related event. Include photos in jpg or gif format if available. Please send complete information - and do not merely e-mail a copy of your flier or a reference to a website. If you don't have a press release, just click here: http://www.svhamstra.com/PressRelease1.shtml and fill out the information as completely as possible - or use the items asked for as a guide to the information I need. Just send in your press release or listings request in simple txt format if possible, and send any photos as attachments, not imbedded within the e-mail. The more information the better.

Because of the large number of items received, we can only use news of event just once, so we try not to get too far ahead in the news. There are a few exceptions to the "just once" rule: If the event is advertised on the website it will be repeated in every issue of the newsletter; If the event offers a discount to members of CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE it will be included in each MID-WEEK issue of the newsletter; Major benefits where ALL proceeds are given to the charity named will be mentioned in every issue as well as major cabaret events like cabaret festivals and galas; We also include at least once each week those regular (monthly, weekly, etc.) events with guests who change each performance, like SETH'S BROADWAY CHATTERBOX, BOB EGAN'S MONDAY SHOWCASE and the like.

HERE & THERE
I'm back and feeling great - except for the huge pile of work I let slide while undergoing nearly three weeks of misery. A combination of plenty of rest (up to 12 hours a day), lots of aspirin, some throat medicine, vitamins, honey & vinegar (ugh), and lots of hen soup (provided by my pal Daniel). The next few days will be busy ones as I try to catch up with my e-mails (over 125 remain to be answered - some are duplicates) and posting stories and news items on the website. The DIARY/DATEBOOK has been updated almost daily, so until the full items get posted on the home page, check out listings for this week by clicking on the button marked DIARY/DATEBOOK at the top of every page on the website.

Congratulations to Thuyen and Henry Pham on the birth of a new baby boy, Dylan Pham, who was born on Saturday, May 3rd at 4:34 am weighing 7 lbs 13.8 oz. Henry Pham was the long-time manager of the now closed ROSE'S TURN in The Village.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the legendary "godmother of cabaret" Jan Wallman who suffered a minor heart attack (due to a vein collapse) several days ago. Jan is doing very well and resting in the hospital - to allow complete rest, no calls or visitors are allowed. Jan's 87th birthday is coming up later in May. Last year MAC gave Jan with a well deserved Lifetime Achievement Award which was presented to her by Joan Rivers. Friends & well wishers may send cards to her new address and they will be delivered to her by hand. That address is: Jan Wallman, 14 Washington Place, New York, NY 10003.

Tickets go on sale today for our 18th BIRTHDAY PARTY at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN to be held on Wednesday, July 9th starting a 7:00 pm. Members could order tickets over the weekend and already about 15 have been sold, leaving about 70 left to sell. The ticket cost this year includes a 2008-2009 membership - SILVER MEMBER/TICKET combo is $30 and GOLD MEMBER/TICKET combo is $85 - which means that the actual cost of the ticket is $10. (Last year we sold non-member tickets at $35!) This reduced ticket price is made possible because of the generous arrangements offered by Phil Bond and Kenny Bell at THE BEECHMAN. Please remember, there is a $15 food/drink minimum at THE BEECHMAN.

Also today, the new 2008-2009 memberships go on sale (new members signing up before July 5th, when all the 2007-2008 memberships expire will get an extra 2 months on their new membership). We hit 478 in the current 2007-2008 membership year, and this year the goal is 500!

I'm starting to get "out & about" after my self-imposed "exile" from cabaret shows - partly because I was afraid of possibly infecting someone else with the miserable flu bug that attacked me. Yesterday I attended my first cabaret event since April 21st - David Pellegrene's "NYC Cabaret Debut" at BROADWAY BABY BISTRO at 5:00 pm. David has been performing in NYC for over 15 years, but always at the piano for other performers' shows or in the piano bars at BRANDY'S, THE TOWN HOUSE, PEGASUS and UNCLE CHARLIE'S. I arrived just in time for the show - a subway car derailment on the same line I was on caused a 20 minute delay at 34th Street, but I was able to switch to another line which only went as far as my intended stop. The show was a lot of fun - David opened with Sondheim's "Another 100 People..." recalling his arrival to NYC from the midwest many years ago. He followed this with a set of songs written by pianists "who make a lot more money than he does doing what he does." Two terrific guests were next - harpist Jose Luis and cabaret newcomer German Rodriguez (both were hits at the MARCH IS CABARET MONTH show). A high point of their set was German singing "Bessa Me Mucho" in Spanish with Jose on harp. Then David returned to sing a duet with German and proceeded with the second half of his show - songs he doesn't sing in the piano bars because loves them so much he doesn't want to get tired of them. Most delightful!

Tonight I hope to get to DON'T TELL MAMA at 7:00 pm for D'Arcy's show "I Believe In Love" and of course tomorrow night is the gala MAC AWARDS at B.B.KING's at 7:30 pm and the AFTER PARTY - SPECIAL EDITION at THE LAURIE BEECHMAN - starting whenever the MAC show ends.

By the way, ticket holders for the non-reserved section ($45) for tomorrow night's MAC AWARDS show are strongly advised to get to BB KING'S early to assure good seating. Some "Standing Room" tickets are being sold but otherwise the show is sold out completely.

One more sponsor for the 18th Birthday show has stepped forward to help cover the costs of the event (every penny of tickets sold will go to support CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE - as in the past). If you wish to be a sponsor at $100 just go to the website and you will find on the opening (home) page a link to the sponsorship form - fill it out with the amount you wish to contribute, and I will send a PayPal invoice for you to use. Sponsors get a 1/4 page ad in the program book (worth $35), and will have their name and website mentioned (unless they wish to remain anonymous) in all promotional materials for the event. Like this:

THE CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE 18th BIRTHDAY PARTY is sponsored in part by Suzanne Carricco (http://www.suzannecarrico.com/ ), Raissa Katona Bennett (http://www.raissa.info/ ), MIRANDA MUSIC (http://www.mirandamusic.com/ ) and Sandi Durell (http://www.timelessdivas.com/ ).

Remember: If you can't attend (or if you have a show or CD to promote, or want to send congratulations on the birthday or to our award winners) you can support the event by purchasing an ad in the program booklet (costs start at $20). There is a link on the opening (home) page of the website - fill in the size ad you wish to purchase and I will send you a PayPal invoice (we prefer PayPal - the safest way to transmit money via the internet). Deadline for ads is June 24th.

In addition to e-mails to answer, I now need to choose the rest of the performers for the 18th BIRTHDAY SHOW - and pronto. I have narrowed my choices down to 12 (I need to choose 6) and now I am going over this list so that the show will have a balance between well known performers and newcomers, cabaret styles, etc. Who ever I choose, I guarantee once again a terrific show - tickets are on sale and almost 20% already are sold!

I realize that there is probably far more information here than you might be able to digest in one reading, but please keep in mind that for the performers mentioned, CABARET HOTLINE ONLINE is one of the few publications that spread the word about their shows and performances. To them, that item about their show is most important, and the fact that every issue published is also posted on my website means two places where the show information can be found by fans and search engines (Google, etc.) alike. Your banner ads and membership donations make this all possible.

This issue is going out a little early today - unlike last Thursday's issue, when I overslept, this morning I was "up with the sun" around 5:45 am and by 6:00 am, when my computer automatically turns itself on, I was busy reading the overnight e-mails and even answering a few. Now it is just about noon, and time for an early nap.

And that is just about the way it was.

Until Monday, then.

Hugs & Stuff,

STU
