The triple threat tween will follow in the tap shoes of Laura Bell Bundy ("Hairspray," "Legally Blonde") Britney Spears and Natalie Portman. Before they became stars, all three young actors were cast as the diabolically talented Tina Denmark. The show never opened. An audition was arranged and the rest is going to be history! Caruso, who appeared with Bernadette Peters in the NBC musical series Smash, will be taking the stage this September in an intimate staged concert production of the award-winning musical that will benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Joining Ms. Caruso on stage will be composer, Marvin Laird, who will step into the high heels of the infamous theatrical dame of mystery, Sylvia St. Croix. Other cast members include, Kim Maresca as Judy Denmark, Katie Sparer as Miss Thorn/Emily Block, Delaney Arizala as Louise Lerman/Eve•and Rita McKenzie as Lita Encore. She began playing classical piano at the age of 6, but by the time she had graduated high schooL, Barber had foresworn jazz entirely. But the resistance eventually embraced her. Barber's first two albums for Premonition made her an international star: despite the label's tiny size, Barber sold more than 120,000 of the album Modern Cool and even more of the follow-up Nightclub, attracting the attention of Blue Note Records. In 2002, Barber moved into an exclusive contract with Blue Note, recording three albums, including Mythologies, a genre-crashing song cycle based on the writings of the ancient Roman poet Ovid; the project was supported by a Guggenheim Fellowship in composition (the first ever awarded to a non-classical "songwriter"). In recent years, she has released two volumes of music recorded at the Green Mill, available on her own label. There is a $25 cover.
