He plays piano and sings and performs live with guitar and upright bass, just like Nat. Yet his voice is raspier, smokier, jazzier even. But he has emerged from the awesome shadow cast by his elder brother. In truth, his phrasing is far closer to that of Frank Sinatra or Billie Holiday than that of his brother and his timing swings a little more. Cole's career continues to ascend as he has moved into the front ranks of America's homegrown art form with a style and musical sophistication all his own. Call for cover/minimum information.

Ron has been performing his own cabaret show, at least annually, for many years, either here in the desert or back East where he has cabaret connections to New York City and Chicago as both a performer and a director of others shows, in addition to handling their bookings, press and publicity. His client list is virtually a 'who's who' in the world of cabaret. One of Ron's many talents is his ability to convey a story for each song about the show, composer, or stars associated with the song - almost like a history lesson for the audience who are often surprised by some of the juicy details. Ron's accompanist is much sought-after in cabaret circles, Christopher Marlowe, who is known for his 11-year association with singer Nancy LaMott until her passing in 1995. He also conducted for Kathie Lee Gifford for over 6 years and for Bernadette Peter's pre-Broadway one-woman show. He is now a permanent resident of Palm Springs. There is an $11 cash cover.

NYC: BONNIE MILLIGAN IS 'TYPED IN' AT 54 BELOWm

Well known on the New York concert scene as the singer who always stops the show, Bonnie Milligan returns to 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) on Saturday, August 16th at 11:00 pm. Bonnie is a force to be reckoned with. With her huge belting voice and one-of-a-kind stage presence, Bonnie has also made a splash in off-Broadway shows including Jasper in Deadland and Cuff Me! This fall, she will leave NYC to originate the role of Pat on the first national tour of Kinky Boots! A Midwestern preacher's daughter, Bonnie grew up in a trailer without much money, dreaming of performing someday. When her parents divorced, she moved to Ohio. While attending college at Ohio State, a mentor told her she'd "never make it as an actress, because of the fat thing". Fearless up until that point, those words killed something inside of her. Upon moving to New York, Bonnie auditioned here and there but was typed out a lot - and started to hear the words of that mentor in her head, louder and louder. One day she decided to take a voice class at the Linklater Center, and during the class, she realized just how much those words 5 years earlier had affected her. After some therapy, Bonnie finally began to feel more confident and self-loving. She went to an open call at the Flea Theatre and got in! There, she met some incredible artists and began making connections - including with director/composer David Dabbon and writer Dick Scanlan, who asked her to premiere a new song in a concert. One thing led to another and before long, Bonnie was heating up concerts from 54 Below to Joe's Pub, with an agent, and a national tour to boot! Don't miss this sensational belting phenomenon in her solo concert debut, as she brings down the house one last time before she struts across the country in the national tour of Kinky Boots. With special guest Matt Doyle! There is a $25-$35 cover plus a $25 food/drink minimum.

Cole doesn't apologize for sounding like his brother, Nat "King" Cole. There are certain unmistakable similarities.

The family moved to Detroit when she was six years old. Her parents sold corn liquor and her living room was oft-times visited by The Soul Stirrers, The Blind Boys of Mississippi, and many other traveling gospel groups of the day. By 16, Betty Jo had become enamored with showbiz. She decided to change her name to something more dramatic. She knew a local groupie by the name of Sherma Lavett, liked the sound of the name, and thus, Betty LaVette was born. Bettye's first single was "My Man - He's a Loving Man.", in the fall of 1962. The record was quickly picked up by Atlantic for national distribution. The record charted #7 R&B and put her on her first national tour, with Ben E. King, Clyde McPhatter, and another newcomer, Otis Redding. After a brief spell at Detroit's Lupine label, Bettye went back to New York and became the featured singer in the Don Gardner & Dee Dee Ford Review, where their Small's Paradise shows became the talk of the town. "Hey Love", was written expressly for her by Stevie Wonder. In 1969, Kenny Rogers heard her cover of his group's "What My Condition My Condition Was In", and suggested to his brother, producer Lelan Rogers, that he record her. This led to her signing with Silver Fox, and a trip to Memphis, where she made a string of records with a then unknown studio group, who went on to become known as The Dixie Flyers. In 1971, at the suggestion of her manager, Jim Lewis, she entered a talent competition, and won a Clio Award for a Schaffer Beer Commercial. There is a $37 - $65 cover.

A native of Yuma, Arizona, Herrera began his musical journey at age 10, when he wanted to play the saxophone, but instead started on the trumpet because his father already had one. He became serious about music as a freshman in high school and would often raid the record collection his band director kept. Classic players like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and John Coltrane caught the young musician's ear, and from there, his interest took off. After studies at Mesa Community College and Arizona State University, as well as stints as a musician on cruise ships, he began working regularly in and around Phoenix. An opportunity then arose for Herrera to move to DC, which he did in 2003. He formed his first group, Joe Herrera's Landscaping Crew, in 2005, which featured area regulars Matt Rippetoe, Bobby Muncy and Anthony Pirog. Things have only gone up from there.
