NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, will be playing her weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a lovely French restaurant in the heart of Soho. 54 BELOW (254 West 54th Street, NYC - 646-476-3551) introduces musical weekend brunches to make the weekend a little more enjoyable - Jazz Brunch on select Sundays and Sing, Harlem, Sing! Gospel Brunch on select Sundays. On Sunday, August 19th at 1:00 pm, "Jazz Sunday Brunch At 54 Below" presents Julie Reyburn. Julie has established herself as one of New York cabaret's most beloved vocalists. Her ability to connect to a lyric with unique interpretations led her to being the first ever Nightlife Award recipient for Outstanding Female Vocalist in 2003, and has further garnered her four MAC Awards and two Bistro Awards. In 2007, Julie was presented the coveted Julie Wilson Award from the Mabel Mercer Foundation and is a frequent guest soloist at Town Hall's Broadway by the Year and the Cabaret Convention at The Rose Theatre at Lincoln Center. NYS: FORT SALEM THEATER PRESENTS ORIGINAL MUSICAL ABOUT MARRIAGE

As its final offering of the summer, MAINSTAGE AT FORT SALEM THEATER (11 East Broadway, Salem, NY - 518-854-9200 - ) raises the curtain on Significant Others Friday, August 17th, and the show runs weekends through August 26th with performances Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 pm, with a Sunday matinee at 2:00 pm. The presentation consists of three original one-act musical comedies about marriage, partnership, conflict, separation and reconciliation, written by Al Budde and Jay Kerr, the Salem team that spawned Corn! The Musical, StarCrossed, and Senior Moments. Take a little bit of Neil Simon's The Sunshine Boys and Hollywood's Grumpy Old Men and add some music and you have the bones of Until Death Do Us Part, the final one-act in the musical evening. Broadway veterans Bill Carmichael and Jim Raposa, each of whom had performed before at Fort Salem, cleared a part of their summer schedules to do the "new" show in Salem. Carmichael, with his wife Susan Burk, the dance director he met the first day of Ragtime rehearsals, operates Emerson House, a B&B in Vergennes. Raposa, with his wife Claudia Shell-Raposa, whom he met on Broadway on his first day of rehearsals for Cats, teaches dance and drama at Burr and Burton Academy in Manchester. Rosie Spring plays Raposa's wife in the first musical, To Have and to Hold, and Kathleen Devine is Carmichael's stage spouse. L.A.: DOUG GRAHAM IN "PERFECTLY IMPERFECT"

Doug Graham will perform at THE ARTHUR NEWMAN THEATRE at the JOSLYN CENTER THEATRE (73-750 Catalina Way, Palm Desert, CA - TKTS: 760-325-2731 - ) on Sunday, August 19th at 2:00 pm, Doug has done a lot of performing since moving to the desert five years ago but it pales by his credits as a Broadway 'gypsy' which is a long list indeed. There's CATS, Chicago, Phantom Of The Opera, A Chorus Line, Dancin', 5,6,7,8 Dance, Woman Of The Year, Dreamgirls, Damn Yankees, Will Rogers Follies, and 7 Brides For 7 Brothers, and more. Locally he continues to sing and dance and recently recreated his Rum Tug Tugger role in CATS for Palm Canyon Theater. As a choreographer, Doug is a 2012 Desert Theater League nominee for both his work on Broadway Tonight and Hooray For Hollywood for Cabaret Theater West. For this new one-man show, "Perfectly Imperfect", Doug has compiled a roster of song selections from Broadway, The Great American Songbook, and Popular music that he feels describe himself, but most likely the audience will see a little of themselves in more than a few. Musical director Joel Baker will accompany Doug on piano for the show and it is presented as part of the Les Michaels Sundays In Summer Cabaret Concert Series. Tickets are $10.

L.A.: BARBARA MORRISON PERFORMING ARTS CENTER SUMMER JAZZ

The next Barbara Morrison Performing Arts Center Summer Jazz Concert will be held Sundays in August from 2:00 to 5:00 pm at BMPAC at BARBARA MORRISON PERFORMING ARTS CENTER (4305 Degnan Boulevard #101, Leimert Park, CA - 323-296-2272). NJ: MORRISTOWN PRESENTS FREE JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL

The Town of Morristown, NJ and Mayor Timothy Dougherty will host the Second Annual Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival, a free all day concert, on the Town Green on Saturday, August 18th from noon until 10:00 pm. The event will open with the all-woman quartet the Jazz Chicks led by vocalist Laura Hull and featuring Nicki Parrott on bass, Janice Friedman on keyboard and Barbara Merjan on drums. They be followed at 2:00 by the Rusty Paul Band, led by the son of the legendary guitarist Les Paul. Their blend of jazz, blues and funk includes a tribute to the great Les Paul featuring a special appearance by long-time member of the Les Paul Trio, Lou Pallo. The Rusty Paul Band also includes Steve Lucas on guitar, Jay Dittamo on drums, Frosty Lawson on keyboards, Mark Friedman on horn and Sonja Hensley on vocals. At 4:00, Rob Paparozzi and the Hudson River Rats take the stage. Singer and harmonica player Paparozzi has worked with a remarkably diverse list of artists including Bruce Springsteen, Whitney Houston, B.B. King, Dr. John and Cyndi Lauper. Following Rob Paparozzi will be the Jerry Vezza Quartet with special guest Grover Kemble. The two popular jazz musicians will be joined by Tom Hamilton on sax, Tom Sayek on drums and Rick Crane on bass. The festival closes with five time Grammy nominee Robben Ford and his trio. Considered by critics to be one of the foremost blues guitarists, Ford has worked with a wide-range of artists, including George Harrison, Miles Davis, Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald, John Mayall, Greg Allman and many others. BULL RUN RESTAURANT (215 Great Road, Shirley, MA - 978-425-4311 - ) presents Cheryl Wheeler on Saturday, August 18th at 7:00 pm. Cheryl Wheeler has to be seen to be appreciated. Nothing you read and nothing you hear from her albums prepares you for how good a performer she is. You may not be familiar with Cheryl, but you have probably heard her music. She is very respected as a songwriter by her peers, which can be seen by how many of them record her songs. Chery's songs have been covered by artists as diverse as Dan Seals, Peter Paul and Mary, Kenny Loggins, Garth Brooks, Suzy Boggus, Melanie, Bette Midler, Maura O'Connell, Sylvia, Kathy Mattea, and Holly Near. If they think she is great, then you owe it to yourself to learn more if you aren't familiar with her. From her albums you can tell that she is a gifted songwriter with a beautiful voice. From other people's comments about her you can learn that she is a natural story teller with a fantastic sense of humor. But until you see her in person, you never really believe what you've been told about her. Besides, almost half of the songs she does during her shows haven't been recorded! There is a $23 cover.
