NYC: SANDY BAINUM: SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT

Songstress Sandy Bainum returns to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Sunday, June 17th at 9:30 pm with her show entitled Sandy Bainum: Something to Sing About. The performance is a celebration of positivity, featuring songs that are engaging, entertaining, and ultimately uplifting. The eclectic musical collection brilliantly weaves together the melodies of several decades and musical genres and features tunes by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Dorothy Fields, Stephen Sondheim, Irving Berlin, David Friedman, Randy Newman and John Sebastian. Joining Sandy is her award-winning musical director, Lanny Meyers. The show, directed by Bruce Kimmel, treats audiences to such varied fare as "Cockeyed Optimist" from South Pacific, "Lion Tamer" from The Magic Show and "Pure Imagination" from Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," to name just a few. And what evening out in New York would be complete without an ode to the boroughs, this one by Irving Berlin, "A Beautiful Day in Brooklyn," from one of his rare unproduced musicals. Sandy made her introduction to the New York cabaret scene last year in Excuse My Dust, a cabaret show inspired by the life and writings of Mrs. Dorothy Parker, followed by Great Songs Seldom Heard, after a successful debut at Washington's Signature Theatre. Multi Award winner Lennie Watts brings his new show "BloodyBloody Lennie Watts" to THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440 - ) on Wednesdays, June 6th, 13th & 27th at 7:00 pm and Sunday, June 17th at 7:00 pm. Featuring music from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Sting, and Jason Robert Brown to Janet Jackson, Watts deals with Faith, Trust, Love, Hope, and Life. This show features the talents of Tanya Holt, Lorinda Lisitza, and Wendy Russell, with Matt Wigton on bass, Tim Lykins on drums, Peter Calo on guitar and Musical Direction by Steven Ray Watkins. Life's a Bitch, and then you sing about it! Lennie Watts is an 8 time MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets), 5 time Bistro, and 3 time Nightlife Award winner. Recognized as an outstanding vocalist, director, producer, and booking manager, he has been active in the New York cabaret scene for over 20 years. In addition to directing in small cabaret venues, he has directed events at Symphony Space, Town Hall, and BB Kings. He has toured nationally and internationally with productions of "The MusicMan" (Marcellus) and "The Wizard Of Oz" (Lion). Other roles: Man in Chair (The Drowsy Chaperone) Psuedelus (A Funny Thing...), Herod (Jesus Christ Superstar), Nicely Nicely Johnson (Guys and Dolls), Jinx (Forever Plaid. He has performed at Town Hall in several concerts, including "Broadway Unplugged" and "Broadway By The Year, 1949", and can be heard on the cast recordings of both shows. As a theater director, he has directed productions of "Godspell", "Dames at Sea", "Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat", and "Phantom". Watts is the creator of "cablab" and "Summer In The City", both critically acclaimed professional cabaret performance workshops. He appeared on "The Rosie O'Donnell Show", and released his debut CD "I want... You want..." in 2000. He is currently the President of MAC. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: SUNDAY JAZZ BRUNCH WITH GABRIELLE STRAVELLI

Bistro Award winning vocalist, Gabrielle Stravelli, will be playing her weekly Sunday Jazz Brunch at LE PESCADEUX (90 Thompson Street, NYC - 212-966-0021), a lovely French restaurant in the heart of Soho. NYC: IF IT ONLY EVEN RUNS A MINUTE 10 AT LE POISSON ROUGE

If It Only Even Runs A Minute 10 will be presented at LIVE AT LE POISSON ROUGE (158 Bleecker Street, NYC - 212-505-FISH - ) on Sunday, June 17th with performances at 7:00 & 10:00 pm. This show is the tenth edition of this series of rare songs, behind-the-scenes tales, and inspiring photos from Broadway musicals that may not have been fully appreciated the first time around. The show features performances and stories from original cast members and writers of several of the featured shows. If It Only Even Runs A Minute is Created and Produced by Jennifer Ashley Tepper and Kevin Michael Murphy. Musical director is Caleb Hoyer. The 7:00 pm concert will star: Etai BenShlomo, Richard H. NYC: JIM CARUSO & BILLY STRITCH SUNDAYS IN JUNE AT BEMELMANS BAR

Jim Caruso & Billy Stritch will be performing swinging standards at the legendary BEMELMAN'S BAR at the CARLYLE (35 East 76th Street, NYC - 212-570-7189) every Sunday in June from 9:00 pm until midnight. The two performers, who have performed extensively on their own, gained national exposure together as the host and musical director of the wildly popular open mic, Cast Party, which celebrates talent every Monday at Birdland in NYC, and tours nationally. Caruso and Stritch will be joined by bassist Steve Doyle. Jim Caruso recently made his Broadway debut alongside Liza Minnelli in the Tony Award-winning smash hit Liza's At The Palace!, singing, dancing and celebrating the music and arrangements of the late, great Kay Thompson and the Williams Brothers. For his nightclub work, Caruso has won six MAC, two Nightlife and two BackStage Bistro Awards for his sold-out New York shows at Birdland, the Algonquin Hotel, and Arci's Place; and has also performed in clubs in Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Palm Beach Hotel and London. Billy Stritch is one of the premier singer-pianists on the New York and national jazz and cabaret scene. His most recent nightclub act "Billy Stritch Sings the Mel Torme Songbook" earned rave reviews from the New York critics. Stritch has appeared in cabaret venues across the nation as well as concert performances at the London Palladium, NHK Hall in Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro's Municipale Auditorium. NYC: ARTURO O'FARRILL & THE AFRO-LATIN JAZZ ORCHESTRA

Grammy Award-winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill will be performing on Sundays through March at BIRDLAND (315 West 44th Street, NYC - 212-581-3080) with shows at 9:00 & 11:00 pm. O'Farrill was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte. After leading his late father's orchestra for many years, Arturo formed his own band, The Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra in order to explore his and other compositions in the panoply of Afro-Latin music. SF: THE RRAZZ ROOM PRESENTS BEN VEREEN "STEPPIN' OUT"

Ben Vereen returns to RRAZZ ROOM at THE HOTEL NIKKO (222 Mason Street, San Francisco, CA - 415-394-1189 - ) with his show "Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen," for one week only, Tuesday through Sunday, July 12th through 17th at 8:00 pm (4:00 pm on Sunday). The show is a high energy tribute to the music of Broadway, along with musical selections made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. Audiences can expect to hear classics such as "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries," "Mr. Bojangles" and "Defying Gravity." Well known to theatre audiences for his Tony Award and Drama Desk winning performance in Pippin, Vereen has also appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Chicago, Fosse and Jelly's Last Jam. He is currently celebrating the release of his CD "Steppin' Out Live." For over 40 years, Ben has showcased his versatility and creativity, performing countless one-man shows not only in the United States, but also Europe, Asia and the Caribbean. He was the first simultaneous winner of the "Entertainer of the Year," "Rising Star," and "Song and Dance Star" awards from the American Guild of Variety Artists (AGVA). AUS: SHOWKO - JAPANESE PUPPET COMEDY

Showko, a professional Rakugo performer, will be appearing at THE BUTTERFLY CLUB (204 Bank Street, South Melbourne, VIC, AUS - 03 96902000) on Thursday through Sunday, June 14th to 17th at 7:00 pm (6:00 pm on Sunday). Rakugo is a 400 year old form of traditional Japanese performance where the artist kneels on a cushion and delivers a comic story, acting out all the characters by themselves with the help of only two traditional props, a fan and handkerchief. Puppet Rakugo uses hand-made puppet characters for the performance to make it more visual and entertaining for all ages and Showko has created her own unique style by incorporating her amazing ventriloquism skills. Based in London, Osaka, Singapore and now Melbourne she has been performing internationally in theatres and festivals such as the Edinburgh Fringe, Brighton Fringe, Norwich Puppet Festival, Little Angel Theatre London, and the National Bunraku Puppet Theatre and Hanjotei Rakugo Theatre in Japan.

L.A.: STEPHEN FOSTER RETURNS AS BETTE DAVIS IN BITCHSLAP!

Stephen Foster returns to the stage after a long absence at Bette Davis in "BitchSlap!" (A comedy about Bette Davis/Joan Crawford and Hedda Hopper) in the West Coast premiere of the show at MACHA THEATRE/FILMS (1107 North Kings Road, West Hollywood, CA - 323-314-6332). NYC: ELAINE SAINT GEORGE AT THE METROPOLITAN ROOM

Elaine Saint George takes a witty and opinionated look at the cool, in-control side of Joni Mitchell, a THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Wednesdays & Thursdays, June 6th & 7th and 13th & 14 at 9:30 pm. Featuring songs from the 1930s through the 1990s, Elaine is backed by a jazz trio of piano, bass,and violin. Elaine St.George specializes in reinventing the classics of pop. It's just that her definition of "pop" encompasses everything from Gershwin and ColePorter to Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen and a host of newer songwriters. She is joined by musical director Ross Patterson and some of the best jazz musicians in the business, as she combines consummate musicality with an ability to get right to the heart of a lyric, producing a unique emotional experience for heraudience. NYC: BILLIE WILLIAMS STAGES DEBUT CABARET SHOW

Billie Williams' new show "Fade to Blues" will be performed at THE METROPOLITAN ROOM (34 West 22nd Street, NYC - 212-206-0440) on Friday, June 8th at 9:30 pm and Friday, June 15th at 7:00 pm. As a teenager growing up in the Boston area, Billie Williams co-founded the country swing band Columbus East. She went on the sing with the rock band Mezz, and then with the 8-piece R&B band City Edition, and during those years she shared the stage with R&B legends Wilson Pickett and Sam & Dave. When Billie arrived in New York City in her late 20s, she landed a gig as lead vocalist with blues band The Lenny Nelson Project. Now Billie is finally ready to launch her debut solo cabaret show "Fade to Blues," in which she will wrap her rich and evocative voice around classic songs made famous by Ruth Brown, Etta James, Peggy Lee, Sippi Wallace, and Ray Charles. American Smooth Jazz Award nominee, Anders Holst, will be returning to DON'T TELL MAMA (343 West 46th Street, NYC - 212-757-0788) on Friday, June 1st and Wednesday, June 13th, both shows at 7:00 pm. Anders will reprise his program, "The Man Inside The Song" which features original tracks as well as innovative covers of songs originally by Michael Jackson, The Beatles and Simply Red, among others. Directed by Eric Michael Gillett, the performance will also feature musical producer and pianist Bennett Paster and guitarist Sean Harkness. Following his influences and passion, Anders wrote his first song at age eleven. After years in the consulting business, Anders released his first EP, Five in 2005, followed in 2009 by the release of his second album, Romantika - a collection of songs that ponder love, separation and redemption. Romantika's release lead to a multitude of shows at the prestigious Feinstein's at the Loews Regency, a northeast tour of Botanical Gardens as part of his "Love Blooms" tour, a performance on WNBC's Weekend Today in New York, and a nomination for International Male Vocalist of the Year - alongside Michael Buble, Seal and Matt Dusk - in the 2010 American Smooth Jazz Awards. Ms. Ross has been an abundant contributor to the art of jazz for over 50 years. Born in the UK, she has been a permanent resident of the USA for many years and a US citizen since 2001. Annie Ross is one of the pioneers of vocalese and the composer of "Twisted", one of the most well known examples of that art, as well as "Farmers Market", "Jackie" and many others. A founding member of Lambert, Hendricks and Ross, considered the greatest jazz vocal ensemble of all time, her influence is present in all subsequent practitioners of vocalese. "Twisted" has been recorded by a host of vocalists, including some not normally associated with jazz, including Joni Mitchell and Bette Midler. There is a $25 cover plus a 2-drink minimum.

NYC: JACLYN HUBERMAN AND EMILY SWALLOW AT THE BEECHMAN

Secret obsessions. We all have them, whether it's baking in the middle of the night, having an unhealthy fixation with cleaning supplies, or harboring a crush on a subway busker. Jaclyn Huberman and Emily Swallow take the stage of THE WEST BANK CAFE/LAURIE BEECHMAN THEATRE (407 West 42nd Street, NYC - 212-695-6909) to sing about these obsessions on Friday, June 8th and Monday, June 11th, both shows at 7:00 pm. The show is directed by Jim Augustine, under music direction by Mark Fifer. SF: THE TOMMY IGOE BIG BAND AT THE RRAZZ
